ACC power rankings, Week 9: Miami stays on top during Clemson’s bye week

Wake Forest Demon Deacons 4-3
Last week: Lost 38-24 to Georgia Tech
Last rank: 7

In the second installment this week of slides where both teams faced off with each other, the Wake Forest Demon Deacons actually move up a spot despite their loss to Georgia Tech over the weekend.
This week was a tough one in the rankings for multiple reasons, and this game was one of them. Wake Forest is a solid team with a mediocre record, and the losses from Florida State and Virginia on Saturday made this an awkward situation to sift through. However, the difference between all of them is the opponent. Wake Forest losing to a great Georgia Tech lineup gives them the benefit of the doubt of all the teams that went down in Week 8.
Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 4-2
Last week: Won 38-24 over Wake Forest
Last rank: 5

Week in and week out, I say the same thing with a lot of these teams stuck on the edge of the top five or just barely outside of it, and it’s about how difficult it is to crack into the top four or five teams in the ACC. Georgia Tech has been in the top five for a few weeks now, but they may be stuck where they’re at for a little while.
The Yellow Jackets had a convincing win against a solid Wake Forest squad over the weekend to move to 4-2 on the year, and proved why they’re still one of the stronger teams that the conference has to offer. However, the four teams ahead of them are establishing themselves as the best of the best in the ACC, and it’ll take a huge win over Clemson on Saturday to make some moves.
