On Tuesday night, Nintendo aired a brand new Nintendo Direct dedicated to its new mobile game, Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp. It looks fun, to say the least.
After years, it seems we’re finally getting the Animal Crossing game we’ve been waiting for. No, it won’t be on the Nintendo Switch, nor will it be on the 3DS. This will be the fifth game Nintendo will be developing for mobile devices, and it’s called Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp. We aren’t complaining since it does look like a fun game and in reality, it’s perfect for mobile devices.
If you’ve never played Animal Crossing, it’s a community simulation game. In this series of games, you play as a human who lives in a village full of animals, other humans, and a variety of activities to partake in. For example, you can fish, craft furniture and other objects, catch bugs, hunt specific items, and so on. It’s also very social and you’ll find yourself invested with many of the characters you encounter in the play-through.
The lack of multiplayer is what held it back slightly. Then again, it’s a product of its time and the online multiplayer aspect wasn’t present at the time. Now that Nintendo has caught up with the times and mobile devices are a huge trend, this is a recipe for success.

In Pocket Camp, you’ll be able to do a number of familiar things you’ve done in previous games. However, the most obvious and impressive feature is interacting with other people. You can build friendships with others, which includes chatting and visiting their campsites.
The customization is also very interesting. It seems the game will give players a ton of freedom when creating and editing their character and village, which is great.
Nintendo has given us Miitomo, Pokemon GO (in conjunction with Niantic), Super Mario Run, Fire Emblem Heroes, and now, Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp. Let’s hope it’s as good as it looks and we get some other big franchises on mobile soon (The Legend of Zelda, of course).
Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp will release in late November.
