After missing the NLCS, Los Angeles shortstop Corey Seager is officially added to the lineup for Game 1 of the 2017 World Series.
Dodgers shortstop Corey Seager has completed his rehab and is ready for the 2017 World Series. Seager was added to the official Los Angeles lineup on Tuesday afternoon prior to Game 1.
Seager suffered a back injury during in the NLDS and was held out of the entire Championship Series to focus on rehabbing so that he would be ready for the World Series. Charlie Culberson stepped in at shortstop during the Dodgers 4-1 series win over the Cubs in the NLCS.
Though batting isn’t a contributing factor in Seager’s injury, Seager feels good about his workout on Sunday. “I feel good. They tested everything they needed to test. Took live [batting practice] yesterday. That was kind of the last box I needed to check.”
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts indicated that Seager’s injury is more related to fielding balls at shortstop rather than the motions involved with batting. Should Seager’s injury flare up, Seager could step in as the DH when the Dodgers move on to Houston in Game 3 with Culberson available to step in at shortstop.
While Seager and RHP Brandon McCarthy were added to the roster, outfielder Curtis Granderson and backup catcher Kyle Farmer were both left off of the active roster. McCarthy hasn’t played since October 1, but prior to that has only seen 6 innings of work since July 20 after dealing with a knee injury and a blister.

Prior to his injury, Seager had a productive postseason with two RBIs in 11 at-bats and a .273 average. During the regular season, Seager added 22 home runs and 77 RBI in 539 plate appearances. There’s no question that having a healthy Seager back in the lineup was worth him missing the Championship Series.
