Juventus face Spal at Juventus Stadium on Wednesday, Oct. 25. Here’s all the info you need to watch.

Juventus needed to make a statement this past weekend after a series of dubious results. What Juve did was trounce Udinese 6-2 thanks to a Sami Khedira hat-trick. Juventus will look to do the same during midweek Serie A action as the defending champions host Spal 1907.

Juve are currently in third with 22 points, just a point behind Inter Milan and three behind league leaders Napoli. Should results go they way (any missteps by Napoli and Inter Milan), Juventus could be joint leaders in Serie A once again.

While Juve’s defending remains shambolic, the team coached by Massimiliano Allegri displayed a never-say-die attitude that can get them far. They regrouped after a draw against Atalanta and loss to Lazio in recent weeks and stayed focused on trying to catch up to Napoli, who played Inter Milan to a scoreless draw this past Saturday. This determination is trademark Juventus, but problems, like the aforementioned defense, persist.

Veteran goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon remains solid as is Paulo Dybala, who controlled the midfield versus Udinese and continues to be the attacking force that helps his side score goals. Juventus will be without Mario Mandzukic, suspended after receiving two yellow cards against Udinese in a span of a few seconds in what can only be described as a very bizarre incident.

Spal should be easy to defeat. The newly-promoted side have had a tough go of it in Serie A so far this season. The team are in 19th place with just five points from nine matches. Their only win to date came on matchday 2 when they slipped past Udinese 3-2. The club, founded in 1907 and based in the northern town of Ferrara, won promotion last season following a 49-year absence in the top flight. The team that finished first in Serie B last season could very well return to the second division given how poorly they’ve played this fall.

This is a game where Juve can again run up the score and boost their confidence. Spal, however, can sometimes surprise teams. Napoli needed a hard-fought 3-2 game to get past them earlier this season, while Sassoulo could only manage a 1-0 victory this past Sunday following a defensive lapse. Spal are led by veteran striker Mirco Antenucci, who has one goal and three assists this season. Their defense has given up 15 goals (fifth worst in the league), while the lethargic attack could only muster seven goals. By comparison, Juventus have scored 27 goals and given up nine.
