Joe Flacco suffers cheap shot from Kiko Alonso (Video)

Joe Flacco immediately left Thursday night’s game against the Miami Dolphins after taking a cheap shot from Kiko Alonso.
The Ravens and Dolphins are duking it out on Thursday Night Football, and things were chippy from the get-go. Both teams have been physical throughout the game, but no hit was more brutal than a cheap shot the Dolphins’ Kiko Alonso delivered on Joe Flacco.
Flacco was scrambling for a first down in Dolphins territory when he then slid to avoid contact, but Alonso lowered his shoulder and went straight for Flacco’s head. Flacco’s helmet immediately flew off and he had a dazed look on his face.
Flacco was clearly down and the play should have been over, but Alonso decided to go after his head anyway. It cost the Dolphins a 15-yard penalty, and the Ravens ended up scoring a touchdown on the drive to extend their already comfortable lead. Flacco is currently being evaluated in the locker room for a concussion, and it would be surprising for him to take the field again in this game.

Alonso was surprisingly not ejected from the game, but he will almost certainly be facing some type of fine, as well as a suspension from the NFL after the game. Football is an amazing game, but it’s hits like this that remind us the true dangers of the game.
Ryan Mallett replaced Flacco after he was taken out of the game, and he will presumably be playing under center if Flacco misses additional time. Mallett didn’t play particularly well during the preseason, but he is currently playing in his seventh NFL season and that goes a long way in leading a team. The Ravens surely hope Flacco is alright but will have to play along without him at least for tonight.
