Cameron Maybin’s game-changing stolen base will make even Dodgers fans happy. Here’s when you can steal that free Doritos Locos taco.
If you’ve been watching the World Series, you may have noticed the “steal a base, steal a taco” promotion that Taco Bell’s been running. It’s not exclusive to baseball either — they do it during the NBA Finals when the road team wins a game. Either way, it’s a fun way to get ordinary viewers to watch the World Series.
They didn’t need the promise of free tacos to get excited by Game 2 between the Astros and Dodgers, however. What looked like a routine 2-0 series lead for the Los Angeles Dodgers soon turned into a home run derby once it flipped to the ninth inning.
The drama was heightened when Cameron Maybin, an extra-innings replacement, led off the 11th inning with a single then stole second base. He stole a base, which means you can steal a taco!
But if you think you can redeem the promotion the next day, think again. According to MLB, the promotion doesn’t start until Nov. 1. At least that way, it’ll give Taco Bell enough time to prepare for the hoards of people that’ll rush in to get free Doritos Locos Tacos.
There it is! Thanks to that stolen base, everyone gets FREE Doritos® Locos Tacos from @TacoBell on Nov. 1, 2-6pm! https://t.co/l0i2HLA0Rr pic.twitter.com/x3MtZhtkQR

That Maybin stolen base was good for more than just a free taco. The next batter, George Springer, added to the home run party by hitting a two-run shot that would give the Astros the lead for good.

At least the Dodgers fans who were bitter about throwing this game away can drown their sorrows in a free taco. But because this promotion is cruel, they’ll have to wait another week to do so. Incidentally, the latest the World Series can end is Nov. 1, so the series will already be over by then anyway.
