Here are five things that you may have missed during the NBA’s opening week.
Raise you’re hand if you thought that after the first week and a half of the NBA season, the Warriors would have two losses. How about the Clippers, Kawhi-less Spurs and Grizzlies sitting atop the West? The Nets beating the Cavaliers? Now, if you’re hand is raised, put it back down. You’re lying. What about the Knicks and Bulls being winless? Well, okay, that’s fair. In fact, most people probably could’ve guessed that.
The NBA season thus far has brought fans exactly what we love about basketball; chaos. The unpredictability of each NBA season (other than the Finals featuring Cleveland and Golden State) is what makes the game beautiful. The first week and a half of the season has featured injuries, feuds, breakout performances, drama and much, much more.
The league is already one coach shorter as Suns head coach Earl Watson received the Kevin McHale treatment. Watson was canned following an 0-3 start in Phoenix, who looks like one of the league’s worst teams already. Even though the Suns possess an abundance of young talent, they can’t seem to play defense. Therefore, Phoenix assistant Jay Triano will serve as interim for the rest of the season in the desert.
The trio out in Oklahoma City have already begun to click together. But, the team is struggling to string together W’s. Despite big performances from it’s big three, Oklahoma City is just 2-2 in it’s first four games. Now, one of those losses was on a last-second3-pointer by Andrew Wiggins from half court on a play that should’ve been waived off due to an illegal screen, but it counts as a loss nonetheless. The young Timberwolves core escaped the tough five-game stretch to open the season with a record of 2-3. Could they be legitimate contenders in the West? It’s too early to tell, but they certainly won’t go down without a fight.
