For the second time on Saturday, the Ohio State Buckeyes had an interception in the end zone taken away from them in controversial fashion.

The Big Ten officiating crew probably isn’t a crowd favorite in Columbus at the moment. They also probably aren’t going to be on the holiday card mailing list of the Ohio State Buckeyes’ secondary either.

During the Buckeyes’ big showdown with the Penn State Nittany Lions on Saturday, they thought they had forced two turnovers in the end zone. The first came when Damon Webb picked off a pass intended for Brandon Polk. Instead, a pass interference that didn’t seem that egregious wiped it out.

When the Buckeyes were closing in and thought they had finally gotten the interception in the end zone the second time around, controversy happened yet again. Both Denzel Ward and DeAndre Thompkins went up for the ball in the end zone and it looked like Ward came down with the pick. Ohio State began celebrating, but it was short lived.

The call was reversed on the field to a Penn State touchdown and suddenly, they pushed their lead back to double digits again. Buckeyes fans booed as they watched their team have yet another critical interception wiped off the board.

Games with huge stakes on the line are always going to be closely called, but the officiating clearly is going to be talked about this one after the game, at least by Buckeyes fans. These types of plays are always hard to rule on, but for twice on Saturday, the Buckeyes ended up on the wrong end.
