The No. 5 Wisconsin Badgers ran a beautiful trick play resulting in a Michael Deiter touchdown.
Few things in sports are better than an offensive lineman finding the end zone, and the No. 5 Wisconsin Badgers gave us one of the best big guy touchdowns of the year against the Illinois Fighting Illini.
Wisconsin was looking to add to its 17-3 lead over Illinois late in the fourth quarter on Saturday afternoon with a drive down to the goal line. Paul Chryst decided that was a good time to get creative, as the Badgers called for a unique trick play, resulting in a touchdown.
Quarterback Alex Hornibrook rolled out to his right, leading the entire Fighting Illini defense over to one side of the field. Rather than check down to his running back, Hornibrook turned around and threw to 6-6, 328-pound offensive linemen Michael Deiter, who ran it in from four yards out for the score.
Dr. Saturday has the video of the play, which will be played on highlight reels for years.

It’s fitting that a fat guy touchdown would come from Wisconsin, which has featured one of the largest and most physically imposing offensive lines in college football for a decade running. At 6-6 and 328 pounds, Deiter showed some surprising athleticism and explosiveness in the open field.
The Badgers went on to close out the 24-10 victory to improve to a perfect 8-0 on the season. Deiter and the offensive line’s ability to block for running back Jonathan Taylor are a major reason for that success and now will have some rushing stats themselves to show off.

Now that Wisconsin has proven Deiter is a weapon in the open field, Chryst might be tempted to try another trick play in a higher leverage situation further down the road.
