Loser: TCU Horned Frogs (No. 4 down to No. 10)

On the other end of that tough defeat in Week 9 was TCU. The Horned Frogs were another team that was overlooked in the preseason polls and they have done nothing but prove themselves worthy of a high ranking.

Wins over Oklahoma State, Arkansas, Kansas State and West Virginia showed the rest of the country that the Horned Frogs weren’t messing around. However, they had a road matchup against Iowa State that would have been considered a layup before the season even started, but the Cyclones presented a much tougher test.

Iowa State downed TCU, 14-7, and it was mostly because of the defensive effort from the secondary. They dropped eight and tormented Kenny Hill all day long as he was just 12-for-25 with 135 yards and two interceptions. Turnovers plagued this TCU team on the road.

This doesn’t necessarily crush TCU’s playoff hopes and definitely not its Big 12 title hopes, but it does put a damper on the Horned Frogs heading into Week 10. They could have been looking at a top-three ranking with a Penn State loss, but missed the opportunity to move up.
