3. Brandon Coleman, New Orleans Saints
Ownership % – Yahoo 3%, ESPN 3%
Coleman is kind of the forgotten man in the Saints offense. He’s best utilized as a blocking receiver but that keeps him on the field for a ton of snaps. Last week, he played the second most snaps of any Saints wide receiver, trailing only Michael Thomas. The target share is a bit low, but the scoring potential for Coleman is sky-high.
New Orleans has basically given up on throwing the ball to TE Coby Fleener. That’s likely what’s best for the team, and that has opened the door for Coleman to become the de facto “TE” in the red zone.
QB Drew Brees talks about Coleman often, including just this week when Brees said they have a “great rapport”. When a QB the caliber of Brees talks about a receiver in that fashion, it’s best to listen. Coleman leads the Saints in receiving touchdowns so far this season with 3.
The odds of Coleman producing a fantasy relevant stat line without scoring aren’t very good. Understand that this is totally touchdown dependent. Still, it’s best to target pass catchers from the Saints when they play at home and are facing an opponent that could be out-gunned pretty heavily. Coleman checks those boxes for Week 8.
