Pacers guard Victor Oladipo knocked down a cold-blooded buzzer-beating three-pointer to sink the Spurs.
Victor Oladipo is making the most of his opportunity with the Indiana Pacers. His latest adventure on his quest to finally becoming a bonafide NBA star involved him downing the San Antonio Spurs in a last-second shot that sunk Spurs fans hearts.
These are games that the Spurs usually win. Facing a team that is beginning a rebuild, it was practically a foregone conclusion that San Antonio would have an easy time with the youngsters from the heart of Indiana.
After their blowout loss to the Orlando Magic, however, we all should have known better. If that game wasn’t proof positive that these aren’t the same dominating Spurs of old, the play of Oladipo should have served as Exhibit B.
In his first season in a Pacer uniform, Oladipo is beginning to assert himself as one of the league’s best players. Oladipo has become the Pacers go-to man in the clutch, a position that Victor has been dreaming of ever since he came into the league.
His team trusts him in that role as well, and he didn’t disappoint against a Spurs team that is starting to feel the effects of playing without their own star, Kawhi Leonard.
San Antonio was on the verge of escaping Indianapolis with a win after guard Danny Green hit a driving layup with 1:02 to go that gave the Spurs a 94-92 lead.
That would be San Antonio’s last bucket of the game, and it set them up to be victimized by Oladipo’s heroics. With LaMarcus Aldridge guarding him, Oladipo put on the moves and hit a deep step-back three that put the Pacers up 95-94 with 10 seconds to play.
