Steelers at Lions: Highlights, score and recap

In a matchup of two potential playoff teams, the Detroit Lions played host to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday night inside Ford Field.

The Pittsburgh Steelers traveled to Detroit to take on the Lions on Sunday Night Football to end Sunday’s Week 8 slate, and we were treated to a good one. The game was a seesaw battle during the first half, and while Le’Veon Bell was the only player to find the end zone, it was not for a lack of trying by the rest of the players. Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford threw for over 200 yards in the first half, but the Steelers were playing a bend, but don’t break defense.

Lions kicker Matt Prater booted four field goals in the first half, with his last coming just before halftime to give Detroit a 12-10 lead. A Chris Boswell field goal after the break gave the Steelers a one-point lead, and then they finally hit for a big play. Ben Roethlisberger hit rookie wideout JuJu Smith-Schuster on a 97-yard touchdown pass on third down, giving Pittsburgh a ten-point third quarter lead.

Detroit would tack on three more points in the fourth quarter on Prater’s fifth field goal of the game, but that would be all they could muster the rest of the way. For the Steelers, they move to 6-2 on the season, while the Lions fall under .500 with a 3-4 record.

Three Stars

1. Juju Smith-Schuster, Pittsburgh Steelers

The rookie wideout is starting to get mentioned when people talk about Rookie of the Year, and for good reason. The former USC Trojans had another breakout  game on Sunday night, which included a 97-yard touchdown from Ben Roethlisberger. He is officially the No. 2 wideout for the Steelers, and is earning his playing time.

2. Le’Veon Bell, Pittsburgh Steelers

The star running back is back to being the playmaker for the Steelers, and the wins are coming because of him. Bell sat out the preseason, but has shown in the previous weeks that he is ready to handle the load again. He got the Steelers on the board with a first half touchdown, and it is because of him that Pittsburgh will likely win the AFC North again in 2017.

3. Matthew Stafford, Detroit Lions

The signal-caller for Detroit had a big game on Sunday night, he just could not get his team to find the end zone. Stafford threw for over 400 yards against the Steelers defense, hitting nine different players through the air. He is one of the best quarterbacks in the league, and if the Lions do end up winning the NFC North, it will be because of their passing game.

Betting Lines

The Detroit Lions came into this one giving three points to the Pittsburgh Steelers, as they have been pretty tough at home this season. Pittsburgh ended up winning the game outright, beating Detroit 20-15. The over/under for the game was set at 45.0 points, but it certainly fluctuated during the week. The Detroit Lions will once again play in primetime in Week 9, as they travel to Green Bay to take on the Packers in an NFC North divisional game. The Pittsburgh Steelers will have next weekend off, before returning to action on the road against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 10.
