Thor: Ragnarok will be Marvel Studios’ next film to hit theaters. When will it be released in the United States?
The fall of 2017 will be a big one for sci-fi moviegoers. November and December are packed with movies that are sure to draw big box office numbers. This starts with Thor: Ragnarok, the third Marvel movie of the year.
Ragnarok is the third movie of the Thor franchise. It follows the titular character, Thor, who began as the prince of Asgard in the 2011 film. This character had adventures through Thor: Dark World, The Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron, the last movie we saw him in. The same goes for Hulk, who will be prominently featured in this new plot.
Thor: Ragnarok will introduce multiple new characters. They should provide a fresh look to the third movie.
It begins with Hela, the film’s antagonist and the goddess of death. She’s the first female to take a main villain role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It’s part of Marvel Studios’ trend toward giving women more prominent roles in its films, including 2019’s Captain Marvel.
Valkyrie also arrives as a protagonist. She’s a bounty hunter and potential love interest for Thor, replacing the Jane Foster character, who won’t return for Ragnarok.
Grandmaster will enter the MCU, part of the Elders of the Universe. In the comics, it’s a villainous group that also featured the Ego the Living Planet character, who was featured in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

These characters and Thor’s newest story will come to life on Friday, Nov. 3 when it’s released in theaters — but don’t forget that showings will start as early as 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 2. The movie stars Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Cate Blanchett as Hela, Idris Elba as Heimdall, Jeff Goldblum as Grandmaster, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie and Mark Ruffalo as Hulk.
