In the third game of the group stage, Basel went to Moscow and defeated CSKA 2-0. The win moved Basel into second place with six points. Manchester United lead the group with nine points, while Moscow are third with three points. Benefica are last in the group, still looking for their first points.
Basel are second in the Swiss league but a win could punch their ticket to the round of 16 in Champions League. Dimitri Oberlin came off the bench to score the second goal to seal the victory against CSKA Moscow in the first meeting and should play a bigger role in the return fixture. Oberlin has scored three goals for Basel in Champions League and has seen his playing time increase after Ricky van Wolfswinkel broke his foot. Mohamed Elyounoussi has had a strong season that could attract the interest of clubs in bigger leagues. The Norwegian midfielder has scored twice and assisted on seven goals this season.

CSKA Moscow need to win on Tuesday if they are going to have a shot of advancing. Another loss for Moscow would all but eliminate the club from making the knockout stage. However, a spot in Europa League is possible. Manager Viktor Goncharenko decided to rest a few starters in Moscow loss against Arsenal Tula. Brazilian winger Vitinho will play a large role in Moscow’s attack. Vitinho has scored four goals and added five assists in all competitions this season.
