The College Football Playoff rankings are officially out. Eight teams that didn’t make the top four shouldn’t count themselves out yet.
It’s officially that time of the year to begin the College Football Playoff debate. With the rankings released on Tuesday night, four teams find themselves in at the moment while everyone else will be chasing them.
Alabama, Georgia, Clemson and Notre Dame are the four teams that the committee decided are the top right now. Georgia is tops followed by Alabama, then Notre Dame and lastly, Clemson.
Just when everyone thinks they know which way the rankings are going, they tend to have some surprises. Still, the teams that didn’t make it in the top four this week will still have plenty of time to get in.
Last year, Texas A&M was the surprise team that made it in the opening week rankings. How did they respond to being the No. 4 team? They went and got obliterated by the Mississippi State Bulldogs. That means there’s no reason to panic for those teams that aren’t in just yet.
It always changes and remains fluid, as teams drop out and ultimately see their big season fall apart in the final weeks. Still, it’s favorable to be considered in that top four this early on into the year and every team that makes it is striving to stay there.
However, there are some big clashes left on the schedule this year and it’s highly likely that a couple of those teams could square off with each other before season’s end. Here are eight teams that aren’t dead yet and can still make the College Football Playoff.
