Start: Aaron Jones, RB – Green Bay Packers
The Packers may have struck gold when they took Jones late in the 2017 draft. He came out of nowhere when Ty Montgomery and the more heralded Jaamal Williams were both injured. Jones looks like a natural running back and was the one player on the Packer offense who didn’t suffer from Brett Hundley being the quarterback. Jones not only has racked up over 125 rush yards and a touchdown in 2 of his last three contests. The only one he did not hit those benchmarks was versus Minnesota. That’s understandable as the Vikings have a good defense and that was the game Aaron Rodgers was injured. When you see one of the best QBs go down and know the season likely just went with it, it’s not easy to perform after that.
Perhaps the most encouraging sign for Jones’ fantasy outlook is he is out snapping and out touching Ty Montgomery by a wide margin. It wouldn’t be surprising if Montgomery was still hurting from broken ribs. It’s still going to be very difficult for the Packers to justify taking the ball away from Jones when they need any spark they can find on offense. The matchup against the Lions this Monday night shouldn’t scare anyone all that badly. Green Bay will have to utilize Jones as much as possible and that should lead to a secure workload.
