INDIANAPOLIS, IN - SEPTEMBER 17: Andrew Luck

It is starting to look like we won’t see Andrew Luck at all during the 2017 NFL season, as he sits out practice for the third straight week.

When he first had his shoulder surgery, everybody was certain that Andrew Luck would return sometime during the 2017 NFL season. However, as we click towards Week 9, it is clear that will not be happening anytime soon. The quarterback will not practice for the third week in a row, and with his shoulder not healing the way most expected, he will get a second opinion in the coming days.

Zach Miller suffered a devastating injury during the Chicago Bears loss to the New Orleans Saints on Sunday and nearly lost his leg in the process. Miller dislocated his knee trying to make a catch in the end zone, and in the process, he ripped an artery in his leg. He has to have vascular surgery immediately, and it appears they were able to keep his limb. Miller will have an MRI to check blood flow, and his foot is warm, which is a great sign.

JuJu Smith-Schuster was the story of Sunday Night Football, nearly going for 200 yards in receiving yards against the Detroit Lions. Those yards included a 97-yard touchdown, and during the play, he showed off some speed that many did not believe he had. He has been a great surprise for the Steelers, who are dealing with off the field issues with Martavis Bryant, so Smith-Schuster’s emergence is even that more important.

Staying with that Lions-Steelers matchup, tight end Eric Ebron is not happy with his role with the team. In fact, Ebron does not care if he is traded, as we inch towards the trade deadline. Darren Fells has become Matthew Stafford’s tight end of choice, and for Ebron, it looks this season is a lost one. He has tremendous potential and is only 24-years old, so he would likely be a viable trade option at this point.

One of the bigger surprises of the NFL season through the midway point has been the play of the Oakland Raiders. Expected to challenge for supremacy in the AFC, the Raiders have lost five of their first eight games, and their playoff hopes are nearly gone. They need to turn it around if they want to get back in the hunt, but the schedule is tough, and they looked like they did not even want to play in their 34-14 loss at the hands of the Buffalo Bills Sunday.
