One of the most highly anticipated films of the winter is coming soon in Thor: Ragnarok, but who directed the latest addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe?
Thor: Ragnarok is expected to be one of the funniest Marvel films yet, and director Taika Waititi plays a major role in that lofty moniker.
Waititi, who is known for the vampire-based comedy What We Do in The Shadows, took the reins of Thor: Ragnarok in October of 2014.
Waititi might be my favorite director of all time just on the basis that he admits to placing Easter eggs throughout the movie that only those from Australia and New Zealand will understand. What other director does something as quirky and harmless as that and is upfront about it?
Speaking of Australia, Waititi also made a point to utilize inspired designs from Australia and New Zealand, as well as hire Indigenous Australians in order to make it a “true Australian film.” He also brought Indigenous interns onto the set as a way for them to learn the ins and outs of the film production business because he never had that opportunity himself.
Oh, and for those of you, like me, who have been clamoring for a Black Widow-centric addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe since her character was revealed, Waititi recently revealed that he would love to direct a Black Widow film.
And if you want proof of how funny Waititi must be in real life as well as on screen, Waititi used to “accidentally” leave his mic on when asking for a different Chris rather than Hemsworth.

I am excited to see what he can do in his first run at a Marvel film in Thor: Ragnarok and the potential it has to alter the style of the MCU in the future. Waititi’s Thor: Ragnarok hits theaters on Nov. 2.
