The Atlanta Hawks (1-6) head into Philadelphia to face the 76ers (3-4) in hopes of breaking a six-game losing streak.
The Hawks started the season 1-0. They haven’t won since. They’re in a rebuild, after shedding the Dwight Howard experiment that lasted only one season.
Dennis Schroder is in the second season of being the starting point guard and first as the Hawks best player. He’ll remain one of the most polarizing players in the league, with some believing he’s a good young talent and others thinking he isn’t worth the headaches.
Like all teams starting over, the Hawks are struggling across the board. They’re last in rebounding rate, 25th in offensive rating and 24th in net rating. But, they do have some bright spots. They’re 10th in assist-to-turnover ratio, seventh in turnover percentage and 12th in pace. Basically, they play hard and clean, they just don’t have the talent.
For the Sixers, they’re coming off a revenge win over the Houston Rockets. It was the third game for the young pups this season they let a lead slip away in the final minutes. Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons are looking like superstars. The Sixers are still vastly different teams when Embiid is on the floor (1.030 points per possession) compared to when he’s off the floor (1.166 points per possession), per nbawowy.com. Simmons has fit in nicely and his lack of outside shooting hasn’t affected his ability to drive and make tough shots, though he still struggles in late-game situations when the defense knows what’s coming.
