Thor will make his return to the big screen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the highly anticipated Thor: Ragnarok. But when will the Norse of Thunder appear next in the MCU?

Ever since the end of Avengers: Age of Ultron, Chris Hemsworth’s Thor has pretty much been missing in action from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

He appeared briefly in one of the post credit scenes for Doctor Strange, but that’s been about it.

Now, the character will head up another film.

While previous Earth-bound characters like Jane Foster, Erik Selvig and Darcy Lewis won’t return for the film, Taika Waititi’s movie will introduce plenty of new characters into the MCU. These include the likes of Cate Blanchett’s Hela, Jeff Goldblum’s Grandmaster, Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie and Karl Urban’s Skurge. Marvel Cinematic Universe veterans Bruce Banner/The Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) and Dr. Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) will also appear.

Thor: Ragnarok hits theaters in the United States on Nov. 3, 2017. The question after that becomes, when will Thor appear next in the Marvel Cinematic Universe?

That will likely be in Avengers: Infinity War, which will open on May 4, 2018. Infinity War will start to bring to a close the story that Marvel started telling with Iron Man back in 2008.

The film will bring in all manner of characters from across the MCU, from the likes of Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man and Chris Evans’ Captain America to the characters in the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, as well as a number of characters set to appear in Ragnarok, among others.

All told, the cast list should be one of the most impressive in recent memory, as the MCU’s best take on Josh Brolin’s Thanos. As of now, that group will likely include Thor, who’s been an obvious staple of the cinematic universe so far.
