Alex Rodriguez wore his own turnover chain to the Miami Hurricanes game, which should surprise no one.
The 2017 college football season has brought a number of exciting new traditions all around the country, but none are more fun than the Miami Hurricanes’ turnover chain.
After defensive back Malek Young came up with an interception in the fourth quarter of Miami’s season-opening win over Bethune-Cookman, many fans were stunned to see an assistant coach put a gold chain with the U logo around his neck. Defensive coordinator Manny Diaz had the chain crafted in a jewelry shop over the summer and installed the new tradition of giving to whichever defender forced a turnover, and the Hurricanes players have responded well.
The 36-inch, 5.5. pound gold chain instantly went viral, and just might be the most Miami thing ever. Fans began to wear their own chains to Miami games, and the Hurricanes have broken it out often with a 7-0 start to the season fueled by a terrific defensive performance.
Naturally, Alex Rodriguez was seen wearing his own personal turnover chain alongside Jennifer Lopez during Saturday’s primetime matchup with No. 13 Virginia Tech, via FOX College Football on Twitter.

Rodriguez and the Hurricanes are a great match already, and the turnover chain is just a perfect fit for A-Rod. Love or hate the Hurricanes, it’s been a joy to see the once-proud program break out the swag while instantly becoming a playoff contender under Mark Richt.

The chain has been out often on Saturday night, as the Hurricanes have forced a pair of turnovers while taking a commanding 28-10 lead over the Hokies through three quarters. Rodriguez owning his own personal chain comes as zero surprise to anyone, and makes the tradition that much better.
