Things got so bad for Florida today that the school’s own Twitter account trolled the program.
In the first game in the post-Jim McElwain era, Florida was looking for a fresh start. That began with a change at the quarterback position where Malik Zaire made his first start of the year in place of Feleipe Franks. This was a move long overdue for the Gators as the Notre Dame transfer was a favorite of offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier. While McElwain wanted to give Franks shot after shot after shot, it was a change that was made with the hope that it would inject some life into a lifeless offense.
The good thing for Florida was that they were playing a Missouri team that isn’t very good, although they’re much improved since September, this was supposed to be a game that the Gators could feel good about themselves again.
A funny thing happened on the way toward the victory parade for the Gators and no one seemed to give the memo to Missouri that they were supposed to lay down and die. The score at halftime read Missouri 28, Florida 6.

The third quarter began with Florida interim coach Randy Shannon showing why he’s not going to be a serious candidate for the full-time job when he elected to kick a field goal down by three scores. Good job, Florida. Way to make it a 28-9 game.
It got worse for Florida as Missouri added a pair of unanswered touchdowns to make it 42-9 and after that, the school’s Twitter account basically threw in the towel with this self-trolling.
Props to the social media team at Florida for the excellent gif usage, but if McElwain was fired in part for damaging the brand, then this is more evidence of self-inflicted wounds for the once-proud Gators football program.
It’s going to get a lot worse before it gets better for Florida.
