Only three points separate Burnley and Southampton in the Premier League table. The two teams are evenly matched and have scored the same number of goals this season. Burnley have dropped only two games and are seventh in the standings with 16 points. Southampton are 10th but have won only one of their past five games.
The Saints have scored only nine goals this season, however, the club has picked up their goal-scoring pace. Southampton has scored five goals in their past four games. Manolo Gabbiadini has scored three goals this season, playing as the lone striker. Saints keeper Fraser Forster is on the shortlist of players competing for the starters job at the World Cup next summer. Forster has played well, keeping four clean sheets and making 29 saves.
Burnley defeated Newcastle 1-0 last weekend, with Jeff Hendrick scoring the lone goal for the Clarets. Hendrick is second on Burnley with two goals, trailing only Chris Wood who has scored three goals. For most of the season, Sean Dyche has started Wood as a lone striker, lining up with Hendrick playing behind him. While Dyche has been in charge of the Clarets for the past five season, speculation continues to grow that he will leave the club to take over an underachieving Everton that fired Ronald Koeman.
