The No. 18 Stanford Cardinal will look to retain sole possession of first place in the Pac-12 North when it visits the No. 25 Washington State Cougars on Saturday afternoon at Martin Stadium.
After losing back-to-back games against USC and San Diego State earlier in the season, the Cardinal has reeled off six straight wins to take a half game lead over No. 12 Washington at 5-1. Three ranked teams remain on Stanford’s schedule including this weekend, and David Shaw has to be a little alarmed about the offensive performance last Thursday in a horrific 15-14 win at Oregon State.
Running back Bryce Love, who is near the top of the Heisman race with 1,387 rushing yards, is a game-time decision after being held out against the Beavers. If Love doesn’t play again, Stanford will have to find some way to generate passing offense, and might go to backup K.J. Costello after Keller Chryst struggled mightily in Corvallis.

Washington State rose as high as eighth in the AP Poll during a 6-0 start only to suffer a pair of losses at Cal and Arizona over the past two weeks. There has been problems on both sides of the ball for the Cougars during the skid, and prolific quarterback Luke Falk was even benched in the loss to the Wildcats.
Outside of the Arizona game, Washington State has generally been solid on the defensive side behind 15 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks by Hercules Mata’afa. Falk still has over 2,500 passing yards with 23 touchdowns, and the Cougars have been boosted by the solid running back tandem of Jamal Morrow and James Williams.
