Tottenham are third in the Premier League but sent a message to the rest of Europe that they could be a contender in Champions League. Spurs defeated Real Madrid 3-1 at Wembley Stadium with Dele Alli scoring twice. On Sunday, Tottenham host last-place Crystal Palace, who have picked up all four of their points in their last three games.
While Spurs were dominant against Madrid, they dropped their last Premier League game to Manchester United, ending a four-game winning streak. Tottenham enter the weekend, eight points behind Manchester City and three points behind United. While the title race is far from over, Tottenham are going to have to play nearly perfect the rest of the season to catch a dominant looking City team. Harry Kane has been on fire to start the season, scoring 13 goals in as many appearances across all competitions. However, Spurs will likely be without Toby Alderweireld who injured his quad against Madrid. The injury will likely result in Mauricio Pochettino using a four-man back line against Palace, featuring Jan Vertonghen and Davinson Sánchez as the center-back pairing.
Crystal Palace have been better since Roy Hodgson took over as manager but that wasn’t hard to do, considering Palace did not score in their first seven games. Wilfried Zaha has provided a spark since returning from an injury he suffered in the opening game of the season. Zaha has scored two goals in his past three games for Palace. Defensively, Palace have allowed the most goals in the Premier League this season. Tottenham have scored the third most goals in the Premier League and will apply pressure the entire game.
