Wondering where Thor was before the events of Marvel’s latest film, Thor: Ragnarok? Don’t worry. We’ve got you covered.
Note: this article contains spoilers, though of the relatively minor variety, for Thor: Ragnarok. You should really go see it soon because it’s quite good.
After not appearing in Captain America: Civil War, many were wondering where Thor had been the whole time the Avengers had fought among themselves.
Luckily, Thor: Ragnarok did an extremely good job of explaining where both the God of Thunder and Hulk had been during Captain America: Civil War and did so in a way that was in character for them both.
Neither would abandon their friends, and a level head like Thor’s might have helped end the argument between the Avengers. Besides the obvious “then that would kill the plot to Captain America: Civil War” argument, fans needed an explanation of their pre-Thor: Ragnarok whereabouts that would satisfy them.
That being said, one of the things that makes the Marvel Cinematic Universe great is that everything is connected. Throwaway lines could be major spoilers, and what we perceive to be major spoilers could be nothing but false leads.
The same can be said of where Thor was prior to Thor: Ragnarok, as he briefly mentions that he spent the last few years searching for “colorful stones,” which implies that they are the Infinity Stones.
Thor did say that he did not find the stones, which is a good thing because if he did, then there would be no plot for Avengers: Infinity War. I mean, if Thor had gathered all of the Infinity Stones into one place, Thanos could just take them all at once and kill everyone instantly.
There was also a bit of an Easter Egg when Hela was walking through Odin’s vault and expecting things as she searched for the Eternal Flame to raise her army of the dead. A giant, Infinity Gauntlet lookalike was on display, to which she called “a fake.”
