News broke Sunday morning that NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell will be deposed in the grievance filed by Colin Kaepernick against the NFL.

Earlier this week, we had learned that a number of prominent NFL owners were being required to hand in cell phone records and e-mails pertaining to the grieveance filed by former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick.

Sunday morning brought us the news that it will not be just the owners who are being deposed and brought front and center.  According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Commissioner Roger Goodell will also be involved in this case moving forward.

For anyone who is unfamiliar with exactly what the case is, Kaepernick is accusing the NFL of blackballing him. This statement is from his legal team directly from the grievance they filed in October.

"“During the 2017 NFL season and continuing to the present, the NFL, by and through all NFL team owners, NFL employees, and team employees, have entered into and enforced, implied and/or express agreements to specifically deprive Claimant Colin Kaepernick from employment in the NFL, as well as from practicing with and/or trying out for NFL teams for which Mr. Kaepernick is eminently qualified”"

What’s going to be interesting as this case unfolds is exactly what Kaepernick and his team can prove? It’s one thing to believe that Kaepernick is not a current NFL player because of the controversy he created a little over a year ago by kneeling for the national anthem to protest police brutality against blacks. It’s still quite another thing to be able to prove that in a court of law.

The fact there will be owners — and now the commissioner —  who will have their emails and cell phones examined could potentially turn something up that could point to a coordinated effort to keep Kaepernick out of the NFL. Collusion to this extent is something that is very difficult to prove, but there could yet be some tense moments if any evidence can be found.
