Eagles shred Broncos’ top-rated defense in 51-23 romp
On Sunday afternoon at Lincoln Financial Field, the Denver Broncos fell hard to the Philadelphia Eagles. What did we learn from this Week 9 tilt?
Mired in a three-game losing streak, the Denver Broncos benched quarterback Trevor Siemian and got Brock Osweiler ready to start against the Eagles at Philadelphia.
Riding a six-game winning streak, the Philadelphia Eagles went out to fortify their club and took running back Jay Ajayi away from the Miami Dolphins for a fourth-round draft choice in 2018. This was a Philadelphia team already ranked fifth in the league in rushing entering Week 9.
What would all this mean on Sunday at Lincoln Financial Field? The Eagles continued their dominating play and embarrassed Vance Joseph’s team, 51-23.
Highlights
Three Stars
1. Carson Wentz
The second-year pro took a seat late in the fourth quarter after a job well done. For the fifth consecutive, Wentz threw for at least two scores. He finished the afternoon against the Broncos completing 15-of-27 passes for 199 yards and four scores without an interception in the rout of Denver.
2. Alshon Jeffery
He was targeted 11 times on the day and hauled in six passes for 84 yards and a pair of scores in Philadelphia’s lopsided victory. This season, Jeffery has totaled 34 catches for exactly 500 yards and five touchdowns in his first year with the Eagles.
3. Jay Ajayi
He made his debut with his new team and drew rave reviews. Rookie running back Corey Clement wound up with three total touchdowns. But the former Miami Dolphins’ standout totaled eight carries for 77 yards, including an impressive 46-yard scoring run.

Odds
Wow! It’s interesting to note that as time went on this week, the point spread and over/under in this contest (courtesy of OddsShark) opened with the Eagles 8-point favorites and the number at 43.5 and wound up settling in at seven points and a total of 41. It’s safe to say Philadelphia took care of business on both fronts.
