On Sunday afternoon at MetLife Stadium, the Los Angeles Rams routed the New York Giants. What did we learn from this Week 9 blowout?

Seven games into 2017, the Los Angeles Rams owned a 5-2 record and had scored an impressive 222 points. By the end of ’16, this was a 4-12 squad that had put an NFL-low 224 points on the board.

What a difference a year and an offensive-minded head coach makes as Sean McVay has done wonders with young quarterback Jared Goff.

It’s been anything but wondrous for the New York Giants this season. They have won just once in seven outings and like the Rams had the week off leading into this matchup.

Were the Giants up to the task of surprising McVay’s team? Hardly. Los Angeles jumped out to an impressive 27-10 lead at intermission. And the Rams were on their way to an easy 51-17 victory.

Odds

While the Rams opened up as 3.5-point favorites, that line rose to 5.5 points (courtesy of OddsShark) on Sunday morning. The over/under rose a bit as well to 42.5. And McVay’s club came up big in both regards.

Next Week

The Los Angeles Rams play their first game at the L.A. Coliseum since Week 5 when they host the Houston Texans next Sunday afternoon. The New York Giants will also be in the state of California as they visit the struggling San Francisco 49ers.
