Ubisoft has made a significant upgrade to the voice communication software available to players of Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege, thanks to a new partnership.
Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege is one of the most popular first-person shooter games available right now, but Ubisoft hasn’t been content to rest on its laurels. In fact, the game has just gotten even better thanks to a new partnership between Ubisoft and Vivox.
According to a press release, Ubisoft selected Vivox to replace the peer-to-peer voice chat software integrated into the game that Ubisoft constructed itself. The result has been a tremendous improvement for players around the globe.
“Voice chat is available to any Rainbow Six Siege player, regardless of platform,” said Dave Verratti, President at Vivox. “If you’re using the voice chat functionality that comes with the game, you’re using the Vivox system. Not only is the voice quality better and clearer than what you’ll find anywhere else, it also uses less bandwidth and is more reliable thanks to the expertise of our team.”
The clarity and lower bandwidth use are attractive features on their own, but Vivox’s software goes even further in helping augment the realism of the games that it is integrated into.

“Our technology has two types of communication — team or party chat and 3D positional.” Verratti explained. “Team chat works like a traditional team-centric communication system, letting players on the same team communicate without having to use or download any external software. Our 3D positional system offers a ‘realistic’ experience where players are able to communicate with other players around them with volume varying depending on a person’s location. For example, if players are communicating in 3D chat, they’ll start noticing that their voices sound farther and farther away. It’s a neat and immersive little compliment to any multiplayer game.”
While this is a tremendous improvement for Rainbow Six Siege players, the capability of Vivox’s software is much bigger than just that singular title. It’s even bigger than any single console or platform.
“We are the only full cross-platform provider of voice that has the potential to unlock full cross-platform play,” Verratti commented. “If any developer and publisher was able to unlock this option with the hardware providers, we could finally see PS4 players talking with Xbox One players talking with Switch players talking with PC players. The possibility is there, the hardware teams simply need to approve of the cross-pollination. Vivox technology is used by millions of players every single day, and that number will continue to grow with each new game that’s released with our tech inside. This list already includes PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, Fortnite, World of Tanks, Elder Scrolls Online, H1Z1, Skyforge, Rainbow Six Siege, Neverwinter, Paladins, SMITE, Gigantic and many others are all using our technology. I can’t say specific names yet, but we’ll be announcing more partners soon and you should expect some major names.”
