With Kevin Sumlin seemingly out the door, Texas A&M may be looking in Tallahassee for his replacement.
After a crushing 42-27 loss to the Auburn Tigers this past Saturday in SEC West action, it’s looking as if it won’t be long before the Texas A&M Aggies are parting ways with head football coach Kevin Sumlin. Sumlin is a perennial member of hot seat lists the past few years, but you’re starting to get the feeling this season that Texas A&M brass may finally decide it’s time to move on.
So, of course, that would open up one of the more interesting coaching searches to keep an eye on. With Texas A&M yearning to compete in the tough SEC West, they’ll definitely be looking at some of the bigger names out there on the market, and they also may be looking to pluck someone from another big program.
As far as the latter option goes, the Aggies may certainly be interested in pulling something like that off. Brent Zwerneman of the Houston Chronicle made an appearance on the Paul Finebaum Show Monday afternoon, and during his stint on the show, he revealed that Texas A&M is interested in making some sort of run at Jimbo Fisher of the Florida State Seminoles.

There have been some prominent coaching searches the past few years and during those searches, Fisher’s name always pops up. While he and the Noles haven’t had the success everyone thought they would this year, his overall tenure in Tallahassee has been impressive since he took over for the legendary Bobby Bowden, so it’s no shock that other programs would give him a good look.
There is about $7 million Texas A&M would have to pay in addition to his contract to pry him away from Tallahassee, but if there’s one program that could come up with that kind of coin to get the job done, it’s Texas A&M.
Sumlin hasn’t even been officially fired yet, but we’re already learning who some of the top candidates to take over in College Station may be.
