FanDuel NHL Blue Line Power Plays: November 7
By Matt Rogers
Welcome to the FanDuel NHL Blue Line Power Plays for Tuesday, November 7th. We’re a daily fantasy hockey column focused on top FanDuel NHL plays for your lineups each day.
The NHL schedule is typically hot on Tuesday nights, and with nine games on the schedule for tonight, November 7th’s slate is no exception. Several teams tonight are playing their second game in a row, making for a challenging pick process. Some of these player options may be gassed, as well as some of the starting goalies. We’ll explore who to target, and who to avoid.
Here’s a look at the NHL schedule for Tuesday, November 7th:
Capitals at Sabres (7pm ET NBC SN)
Blues at Deviles (7pm ET)
Oilers at Islanders (7pm ET)
Coyotes at Penguins (7pm ET)
Panthers at Hurricanes (7pm ET)
Predators at Blue Jackets (7pm ET)
Golden Knights at Canadiens (7:30pm ET)
Canucks at Flames (9pm ET)
Kings at Ducks (10pm ET NBC SN)
The Caps are in Buffalo and NBC Sports Network will be televising the game at 7pm ET. That solid match up will be followed on the same channel with the Kings visiting the Ducks in Anaheim at 10pm ET. But the exciting offense should be on Long Island tonight, with the Hot Oilers offense facing an emerging Islanders offense.
As always, we’ll look to update our picks and final lineups prior to lock on our twitter account @FantasyCPR so make sure to give us a follow for all the late breaking lineup news.
Now let’s start building our lineups by looking at the top centers for this slate…
Top FanDuel NHL Centers: Nov 7th
Sidney Crosby ($9,000) and Evgeni Malkin ($8,200) clearly have the best match up tonight, hosting the Yotes who will have Antti Raanta in net on Tuesday night. Both are likely to have a good night, but have been quiet lately. Between the two Malkin appears to be the hottest, and is the better value. Still, while either is an attractive play and should be used for cash games, there’s still risk given their quiet lack of scoring lately.
They’re more expensive, but Connor McDavid ($9,100) and John Tavares ($8,600) are the top plays for tonight at center. While McDavid isn’t sitting on top of the points leader board like he ended last season, he has 16 so far this season, not far from the leader, Stamkos, with 25 points.
But for $9,100, you have to wonder why you wouldn’t move down to Tavares and save money with your top center pick. John is currently second in the NHL in total goals, with 12, and 6th in total points, with 18. The Islanders are at home tonight, and Talbot hasn’t exactly been a defensive wall in front of the net so far this season. Tavares should ultimately be the best center play tonight.
Either Jack Eichel ($7,400) or Sean Monahan ($7,600) are the top picks within the 2nd tier of centers tonight. Eichel has a good match up at home tonight, has been actively peppering goalies with shots, and has two assists over the last three games.
We really like the Flames match up at home tonight, and I think they’re going to be a great GPP play with many FanDuel NHL plays fading their offense. Monahan is the best center option from the Flames, leading their top line, but Mikael Backlund ($5,100) presents greater value, and could be a great play with Tavares, getting over 20 minutes of ice time tonight in a favorable match up.
Now let’s take a look at the wings we want to stack along with our centers…
Top FanDuel NHL Wings: Nov 7th
We played Alex Ovechkin ($8,800) last night and he was great for cash games. Ovi has another great match up tonight, and has been hot for most of the season. We might play him in some cash games, but there is so much value available tonight, it’s easy to avoid him with this salary level.
Vladimir Tarasenko ($8,200) and Taylor Hall ($7,800) are both the top offensive players on their teams, but they’re playing each other, both facing one of the better goalies in the league since the start of the season. The Blues and Devils offense is a hard fade tonight, and I wouldn’t pay up for Hall or Tarasenko.
We like the Flames tonight, and their top wing Johnny Gaudreau ($7,500) should have a very active night. But we’re going to stick with stacking the second line of the Flames for a better value, moving down and grabbing a cheap Matthew Tkachuk ($5,500). Tkachuk has been inconsistent this season, but with the right match up, he’s scoring over 20 FanDuel NHL points.
Another great pick at this salary level, is top-line winger Conor Sheary ($5,400). We talked about how we like Crosby and Malkin in a great match up, but they’re both too expensive. Sheary presents a great value offer to get exposure to Crosby’s top line against the Yotes.
With Tavares as our top center tonight, we need to grab one of the Islanders first line wingers, and Anders Lee ($6,300) has been hot this season. While Lee was quiet on Sunday against the Avalanche, Anders has a goal or assist in seven of his last eight games, many of those games with multiple offensive points.
Sticking with the Islanders, we have to think Jordan Eberle ($6,200) will want to show his old team why they shouldn’t have traded him to the Islanders late last season. Eberle was a hot young talent for the Oilers last season, often playing with McDavid. But this year, Jordan is manning the Islanders second line. And while he’s only averaging around 12 FanDuel NHL points-per-game, he just scored two goals against the Avs on Sunday.
Off of many FanDuel NHL player’s radars, Evgenii Dadonov ($5,300) is a tremendous value from the Florida Panthers top line. Dadonov is averaging over 15 FanDuel NHL points-per-game, on a cheap salary. Evgenii is playing over 20 minutes per game, offering plenty of opportunity to pile up points, and he has four goals and three assists in the Panthers last five games.
Top FanDuel NHL Defenders: Nov 7th
We’ve been harping on Alex Pietrangelo ($6,300) all season. He’s now averaging avoer 18 FanDuel NHL points-per-game, and is quickly becoming a top three or four defensive option each time he’s on the ice. We’re tempted to play Alex again tonight, but we don’t like his match up in New Jersey against a solid Cory Schneider, right now,
And with Roman Josi ($6,200) and P.K. Subban ($5,900) also canceling each other out with a great defense match up between the Predators and Blue Jackets on Tuesday night, Kris Letang ($6,800) is cearly the top option on defense. The only risk with Letang is that he hasn’t been as dominate this season as the other three, but with this match up, he’s your best cash game play on defense.
For value picks, we’re going back to our Islanders stack and grabbing Nick Leddy ($4,900). The top-line defender is benefiting from the great play of Tavares so far this year, and is averaging almost 13 FanDuel NHL points, for a dirt-cheap $4.9K.
And sticking with the Flames second line, Leddy could be a great pairing with T.J. Brodie ($4,600) making the expensive center and wing options more affordable. Brodie is mostly good for assists, but hasn’t been that offensively active this season. Still, with around 25 minutes of ice time each game, and in a favorable match up, T.J.’s stock rises and a $4.6K salary is easy to accept.
Top FanDuel NHL Goalies: Nov 7th
Tuesday’s slate is dripping with top goalie talent, making it difficult top pick offensive targets, but easy to pick a goalie. However, because there are so many great options, the goalies are expensive for November 7th.
Jonathan Quick ($9,400) has been one of our favorite goalies since the start of the season. Quick is 8-3 in eleven starts, and still lands around ten points with a loss. Jonathan is piling up saves, rarely giving up more than one or two goals a game, and is almost a lock for 12 points each night.
But the Kings are in Anaheim tonight, facing an underrated John Gibson ($8,200). Between the two, even with Quick in net, we actually like Gibson more. He’s got a tough match up, but has been able to shut down some very good offensive teams, like the lightening in late October.
Braden Holtby is on the shelf tonight, leading to an attractive Philipp Grubauer ($7,700) value pick. But the Caps are in Buffalo. The Sabres have some of the best young offensive talent in the league, and the Caps have struggled to get wins this season, even with Holtby in net.
Bobrovsky, Jake Allen ($8,800), Cam Talbot ($8,600), and Pekka Rinne ($8,600) all have touch match ups. This makes Matthew Murray ($9,000) stick out immediately among the top goalies playing tonight. Murray and the Penguins are at home in Pittsburgh hosting a terrible Coyotes team. Matt is a great play in cash games.
But of all the goalie options tonight, we like the match up between the Calgary Flames veteran net-minder Mike Smith ($8,400) and Anders Nilsson ($7,500). Nilsson took time off recently for the birth of his child, so ignore the Day-to-Day sign applied by FanDuel NHL. Anders should be suiting up tonight.
Nilsson only started four games this season, and looked great against the Caps and Wild, but played both teams while they were struggling. Anders struggled in his match up in Boston. Tonight, the Canucks travel to Calgary to play a Flames team scoring, per game, near the bottom of the NHL this season.
However, the Flames offense has been hot lately, and the Flames are only not giving up many goals, 7th best in the NHL, thanks to the veteran net minder Smith. Tonight, Smith should get the win, along with 20 to 30 FanDuel NHL points.
So, after reviewing all of our favorite options, here’s an example of a lineup we put together for Nov 7th FanDuel NHL:
C Tavares (NYI $8,600)
C Macklund (CGY $5,100)
W Lee (NYI $6,300)
W Eberle (NYI $6,200)
W Tkachuk (CGY $5,500)
W Dadonov ($5,300)
D Leddy (NYI $4,900)
D Brodie ($4,600)
G Smith (CGY $8,400)
Note: This is a recommended lineup after discussing our top options for the week. You should use this as a guide, and provide your own input when building FanDuel NHL lineups. We are not telling you, or selling you, to use this lineup.
