NFL roundup: Jameis Winston out several weeks for Bucs

The 2017 NFL season has not been kind to Jameis Winston and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and it got worse on Sunday, as he will be out several weeks.

The 2017 NFL season was supposed to be the one that saw the Tampa Bay Buccaneers finally make it back to the playoffs, but it has been quite the disappointment thus far. In fact, their star quarterback, Jameis Winston, is being shut down for the foreseeable future due to his throwing shoulder. The Bucs take on the New York Jets, and that means they will go with Ryan Fitzpatrick under center, as both he and Jets starter Josh McCown will be facing their former team.

Josh Gordon was once considered one of the best young wide receivers in all of football, but that seems like an eternity ago. Gordon has not played in an NFL game since 2014, and the once promising star is hoping to pick up right where he left off when he finally gets into a regular season game later this season. The speedy wideout was conditionally reinstated by the league this past week, and the word is he will report to the Cleveland Browns on Tuesday.

Teddy Bridgewater may be coming back very soon, as he will be activated from the physically unable to perform list this week. Bridgewater will likely serve as a backup to Case Keenum once he returns, as Keenum has done a nice job leading the Minnesota Vikings to their current four-game winning streak. Getting Bridgewater back in the fold will only strength one of the better teams in the NFC, as the Vikings currently sit atop of the NFC North with a 6-2 record.

On the other side of the coin, the New York Giants have been one of the worst teams in football this season, and have failed to live up to expectations. A year after making it to the playoffs for the first time in five seasons, the Giants are off to a 1-7 start, and head coach Ben McAdoo may be shown the door after only his second season. Quarterback Eli Manning may see his consecutive games streak end as well, as the team may go to rookie Davis Webb to see what he has with the season pretty much over.

The most dominant team in the NFL this season? Well, that distinction goes to the Philadelphia Eagles, who are the only team with only one loss in 2017. On Sunday, the Eagles had a tall order in the form of the Denver Broncos defense, but the No Fly Zone proved to be no problem for Carson Wentz. The second-year quarterback threw for four touchdowns, including two to Alshon Jeffery, as the Birds put up 51 points against Denver to move to 8-1.
