LeBron James interested in maybe buying the Cavaliers one day

LeBron James as the owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers someday? It could happen.

LeBron James, owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers. Has a nice ring to it, doesn’t it? Well, if the opportunity comes up for him to make the purchase, then you may have the opportunity to address him in that manner.

One of the richest athletes in sports, LeBron is currently trying to lead his Cavaliers back to the NBA Finals on the court, but according to Yahoo! Sports, he may have the opportunity to build the pieces needed to keep the team competitive from the front office.

The website obtained a quote James made to The Athletic, in which he states:

“If this thing open up and I’m in a position financially, and I’ve got the right team around me, obviously. But who’s to say Dan will (sell)? I’ve always kept it just player/owner at this point. I guess once I come down to that point, if the conversation needed to be had, I’ll have it. But I don’t have it right now.”

Yep, you heard that right, folks. King James is interested in buying his hometown team. That would be fitting for James, making his legacy with the Cavs both on and off the court. He wouldn’t be the first NBA icon to buy a team in his home state. Michael Jordan is the owner of the Charlotte Hornets in his home state of North Carolina.

LeBron’s interest in purchasing the Cavs is certainly salivating for Cleveland fans both at home and around the world, and finances may not be a problem. According to Forbes, the team’s estimated value is $429 million, and James can easily cobble that amount up if offered.

The main roadblock to this, as he mentioned, is current owner Dan Gilbert. When James’ playing days are done, will Gilbert be interested in selling the team to The King? Only time will tell, but one thing we know for sure is it will be interesting seeing how LeBron can build a winner from the front office if given the chance.
