Rocket League and ELEAGUE feel like a perfect match, and fans will get to see if that’s the case in December.
With ELEAGUE already establishing itself as the leader in bridging the gap between traditional TV and esports channels like YouTube and Twitch, it’s only natural to expect more games to be added to its repertoire. It’s happening sooner than you might think, as ELEAGUE, in conjunction with Psyonix, has announced The ELEAGUE Cup: Rocket League, which brings the insanely popular vehicular soccer game to gamers everywhere this December.
Like other ELEAGUE efforts, The ELEAGUE Cup will have both streaming and television components, both of which begin on Friday, Dec. 1. The former will feature eight of the world’s best Rocket League teams taking part in a round robin-style opening round with the top two teams in each group of four moving on to a single-elimination tournament.
The round robin play will be streamed live on Twitch and YouTube on Friday, Dec. 1 at 2 p.m. ET, while the playoff games will be on Saturday, Dec. 2 and Sunday, Dec. 3, beginning at 2 p.m. ET on both days. All the action will take place at ELEAGUE Arena at Turner Studios in Atlanta, and the stakes will be high with $150,000 in prize money on the line.
On the TV side, ELEAGUE will present a three-episode feature series Fridays at 10 p.m. Eastern on TBS beginning on Dec. 1 and ending on Dec. 15. With more of a focus on the teams and players involved, the series will show off “the game’s most accomplished teams and players as they compete at the highest level, including their journey through The ELEAGUE Cup: Rocket League.”
“Rocket League is such a fun and entertaining blend of creative vehicles and soccer. With competition at its core, it’s also a popular esports title that resonates with audiences of all ages,” Christina Alejandre, GM of ELEAGUE and VP of esports, Turner Sports, said in a press release. “We’re very excited to feature this compelling game as we further expand our ELEAGUE portfolio and provide immersive content experiences across all platforms.”

Since its creation in 2016 by Turner and IMG, ELEAGUE has expanded quickly in terms of the number of games it has featured in its unique take on esports. Rocket League follows in the footsteps of Counter Strike: GO, Overwatch, Street Fighter V and Injustice 2, confirming the league’s intent to showcase any competitive video games with the right audience and interest, regardless of genre.
