Top 50 sports franchises in the world

Originally owned by Labatt Brewing Company, the Toronto Blue Jays have become a big-time franchise in Major League Baseball. While Rogers Communication bought them from the beer company, they have enjoyed incredible success since moving into the Rogers Center, winning back-to-back World Series titles in the early 1990s. The problem is, they went on a 21-year playoff drought after winning the second of those two titles, and have not really been a threat in the American League ever since.
The Blue Jays came into existence in 1977, and they certainly wasted no time putting together the memorable moments. Doug Ault blasted two home runs in their first ever game, leading the team to a win. In 1983, they enjoyed their first winning season, and ten years later, they went on an incredible two-year run. Those championships are forever ingrained in the minds of baseball fans thanks to a clutch game-winning home run in Game 6 by Blue Jays legend Joe Carter.
Toronto is the only Major League Baseball team located outside of the United States, though they used to be the second. The Montreal Expos are now the Washington Nationals, leaving the Blue Jays as the only team north of the border. In 2015, the Blue Jays actually won the American League East, and entered the playoffs for the first time since 1993, but they never made it back to the World Series.
There have been some incredible players to play for the Blue Jays, including Roger Clemens, who won the pitching Triple Crown in 1997 and 1998. Guys like Carlos Delgado, Dave Stieb, Jose Bautista, and Robbie Alomar have all had their time exciting the fans up north. It is a winning franchise for sure, and they should be back in the playoffs within the next couple of seasons.
