College Football Results Against The Spread Week 10

We had a huge college football week with 61 FBS vs. FBS games. That was the most games of any week this year. I had a lot of chances to put myself closer to my 55% goal. Did I accomplish that?

More from College Football Odds

I ended up with just 25 points in pick em this week, which was my worst total ,oh, ever. I botched my six, eight, and ten pointers, and pretty much flushed away my chance of winning the reader’s group. Hopefully the spread picks were better!

Here we will recap my picks against the spread. The winner against the spread will be in BOLD. My result will follow. Let’s get to it!

Bowling Green(-3.5) at Kent State: HIT! The Flashes are really bad. Why didn’t I put more on this?

Miami(OH) at Ohio(-10.5): HIT! Even the return of Gus Ragland didn’t help the Redhawks.

Central Michigan at Western Michigan(-3.5): MISS! The Broncos were in contro of this game until they allowed 21 unanswered fourth quarter points. Thanks guys!

Northern Illinois at Toledo(-8.5): MISS! This was a good game, and the NIU defense played pretty well. Toledo’s defense was just better than I thought.

Ball State at Eastern Michigan(-23.5): HIT! The Eagles need to win out to make a bowl game in consecutive seasons for the first time in school history. If they play like this, they can do it.

Navy(-8.5) at Temple: MISS! Where did that come from? Temple’s defense showed up for this one, and the offense was capable.

Idaho at Troy(-18.5): HIT! Troy’s woes with double digit spreads continue. Watch this trend going forward. It could make you some money!

Marshall at Florida Atlantic(-7.5): MISS! FAU still won, but the Herd made them work for it.

Memphis(-12.5) at Tulsa: HIT! Memphis did run off with this. It was never a game.

UCLA at Utah(-6.5): HIT! This was easy money. Josh Rosen is good, but the rest of that team is terrible.

Penn State(-9.5) at Michigan State: MISS! I did not see that one coming. It seems as though opposing defenses have finally figured out how to stop Barkley. Hey, it took the SEC just as long to figure out what to do with Fournette…..

Wisconsin(-13.5) at Indiana: MISS! This was a statement by the Badgers. They need more wins like this since the don’t have the schedule to impress the committee.

Auburn(-14.5) at Texas A&M: HIT! Whew! That was close!

Massachusetts at Mississippi State(-31.5): HIT! I knew that was too many, but I am surprised that UMass kept it that close.

Florida at Missouri(-2.5): HIT! It has been a long, long time since Florida has looked that bad in a game. That is no way to parlay an interim job into something more!

Kansas State at Texas Tech(-3.5): MISS! It is safe to say that the Kansas State offense runs better under Belton than it does under Jesse Ertz.

Western Kentucky at Vanderbilt(-10.5): MISS! It may sound like sour grapes to say that Vandy got lucky, but they did. With the touchdown that put them over in particular.

Baylor(-7.5) at IKansas: MISS! I knew better. Baylor wont make much noise the rest of this year, but next year could be a different story.

Illinois at Purdue(-13.5): HIT! I should have went higher on this one. Purdue dominated this game.

East Carolina at Houston(-23.5): HIT! Another half goes my way. I likely need it.

Syracuse at Florida State(-6.5): MISS! I should have went with the Orange. This is exactly what I was expecting. FSU to win a close one.

Georgia Tech(-9.5) at Virginia: MISS! Where did that come from? This is the best Virginia has looked since they beat Boise on the Smurf Turf…..

Appalachian State(-9.5) at Louisiana-Monroe: MISS! Just when it looked like the Mountaineers had the upper hand and were pulling away……they allow 17 unanswered to close the game.

Georgia State(-3.5) at Georgia Southern: MISS! There was a reason I only bet one point on this.

Rice at UAB(-10.5): HIT! I didn’t give UAB nearly enough credit. They didn’t just win by 20, they won by over 30!

New Mexico State(-9.5) at Texas State: HIT! The Bobcats kept it as close as they could.

South Carolina at Georgia(-23.5): HIT! I was closer than the experts. I said Georgia by 17.

Wake Forest at Notre Dame(-14.5): MISS! I knew better. I was expecting a pretty close game.

Clemson(-8.5) at North Carolina State: HIT! This game wasn’t quite as close as it looked. Clemson gained control in the third quarter.

Ohio State(-17.5) at Iowa: HIT! I knew that this was too many points, but I never saw Iowa winning, let alone blowing the Buckeyes off the field. This was the most points that Ohio State had allowed in a game since 1994. Most of the players on either team weren’t even born yet! The Pac 12 had to love to see this……it means they still have a shot at the playoff!

Iowa State at West Virginia(-3.5): MISS! That half got me. There was some good defense in this game. That’s something you don’t usually see in the Big 12(10).

Stanford(-1.5) at Washington State: MISS! I will give credit where it’s due. That was great run defense by the Cougars with the exception of one play in the first quarter.

South Florida(-23.5) at Connecticut: HIT! I like watching Quinton Flowers play, but the rest of that team has issues.

Maryland(-3.5) at Rutgers: MISS! This was an ugly game if you like football. If you like seeing bad offense that is not the cause of good defense, this was the game for you.

Charlotte at Old Dominion(-7.5): MISS! Seriously? 6 to 0? This was as ugly as the Virginia Tech-Wake Forest game in 2014 that finished 6-3 in double overtime!

North Texas at Louisiana Tech(-4.5): HIT! This was a very exciting game. The two previous games could have learned something from this one. I was wrong about one thing though. It was Jeffery Wilson, not Mason Fine, that won this for the Mean Green.

Northwestern(-1.5) at Nebraska: HIT! At least Nebraska is putting up a fight. A lot of teams with lame duck coaches don’t even do that….

Army at Air Force: MISS! This is what domination looks like, kids. Army didn’t even throw a pass!

Oklahoma at Oklahoma State(-2.5): HIT! This was everything that you expect a rivalry game to be! I hope you bet the over! These two offensive juggernauts had that covered by halftime. In fact, this was the most points in a game in the history of the Bedlam series. No biggie. They have only been playing it since 1904…..

Mississippi at Kentucky(-3.5) MISS! The Wildcats keep finding new and creative ways to lose. Something tells me that Mark Stoops will be fired in a more conventional manner…..

Coastal Carolina at Arkansas(-23.5): MISS! I knew better. Arkansas is completely awful. This could have been a monster win for the Chanticleers. They were so close!

Cincinnati at Tulane(-5.5): HIT! The Bearcats are gradually improving, but it is too late for this season. Next season on the other hand…..

Louisiana at South Alabama(-5.5) MISS! The Jags can, and do, make suckers out of anyone that bets them.

Oregon State at California(-7.5): HIT! This was a rather chaotic game, but Cal was involved, so I am by no means surprised. Chaos follows them this year.

Utah State at New Mexico(-3.5): MISS! The Aggies may be a mess, but they cleaned the Lobos’ clock…..at home!

Hawaii at UNLV(-7.5): HIT! This was a close one! I still find it hard to believe how much better UNLV is now than they were in the first two weeks.

Nevada at Boise State(-20.5): HIT! Well, Nevada hung around for about a third of the game…..

Colorado State(-4.5) at Wyoming: HIT! Wyoming won this game in the middle of a blizzard. Fun to watch on TV, but I don’t imagine that it was a lot of fun in the stands or on the field.

UTSA(-5.5) at Florida International: HIT! The Panthers are finally showing the promise that I thought they had coming into the season. Better late than never, and they are heading to a bowl game with this win!

Texas at TCU(-6.5): MISS! Texas certainly made them work for it, but the TCU defense absolutely dominated the Longhorn offense.

Central Florida(-14.5) at SMU: MISS! Well, it turns out I didn’t need to be worried about that half at all. UCF was never a threat to pull away with this one.

Southern Mississippi at Tennessee(-6.5): HIT! This is probably the best that the Tennessee offense has looked all year. Unfortunately, I’m not kidding.

UTEP at Middle Tennessee State(-17.5): HIT! I want to see UTEP play Georgia Southern. Just out of morbid curiosity.

Minnesota at Michigan(-15.5): HIT! I’m not at all surprised by this, though I will say that Minnesota is better than they were about a month ago. That isn’t saying much.

LSU at Alabama(-21.5): MISS! The LSU defense looked better than I thought they would. I could have sworn that I picked LSU though. Oh well……..I’m sure I had my reasons, however flawed they were.

Virginia Tech at Miami(FL)(-1.5): MISS! That Miami defense dominated this game. Much was made of the VT defense, but they weren’t the ones flying to the ball. That was Miami.

Colorado at Arizona State(-3.5): HIT! Betting against Colorado on the road is a pretty good way to make money. The Ralphies are 1-3 against road spreads. The only team they weren’t covered by is that awful UCLA defense.

Oregon at Washington(-16.5): HIT! Not only did Washington cover this, but they would have covered the original line by more than a touchdown. There was one reason to watch the game though: Dante Pettis got his record ninth career punt return for a touchdown!

San Diego State(-23.5) at San Jose State: MISS! Any time the Aztecs are involved, I should just take a loss…..

Arizona at USC(-7.5): MISS! Arizona showed a lot of heart battling back, but that defense still couldn’t make a stop in the fourth quarter when they really needed it.

USC(-3.5) at Arizona State(-7.5): MISS! The Trojan offense finally hit it’s stride in this one. Is it too little too late?

BYU at Fresno State(-11.5): MISS! It wont get any easier for Fresno to cover than this. BYU was gift wrapped and ready for pounding without Tanner Mangum….

A strong night kept me just over .500 at 31-30. That puts my season total at 283-255, good enough for 52.6% on the season. That is still a little below my goal, but I’m inching closer! I do’t think I did so well with points though.

This week’s totals follow the number. The season totals are in parentheses.

1. 1-5 (41-42) = -1
2. 15-10 (102-87) = 30
3. 10-8 (84-67) = 51
4. 5-3 (38-40) = -8
5. 0-4 (18-19) = -5

For the second straight week, I bombed by five pointers. I am 1-6 over the last two weeks with those. I still broke even this week, marking the first time that I have ever ended up at zero in a week using my points. It’s better than a loss, I guess. Overall it was a solid week!

Next week is another huge week! Hopefully I can keep it up!
