England face Germany at Wembley Stadium on Friday, Nov. 10. Here’s all the info you need to watch.
England and Germany both cruised through their World Cup qualifying campaigns, winning their groups and securing a spot at next summer’s World Cup in Russia. Gareth Southgate called up a young and inexperienced team. Only Gary Cahill and Joe Hart have earned more than 31 caps for the Three Lions. Joachim Low called up a large portion of the squad that won the Confederations Cup over the summer, along with several national team stalwarts.
England have performed well under Southgate, picking up 24 of 36 points. However, Southgate was forced to call up several players who could make their international debut after Harry Kane, Dele Alli, and Raheem Sterling were unavailable for England’s friendlies against Germany and Brazil. Jordan Pickford, Joe Gomez, Jack Cork, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, and Tammy Abraham could all earn their first international cap as players compete for a spot in Russia.
Low’s biggest success as German manager has been his ability to develop players and have them mesh together successfully. In addition to winning the last World and Confederations Cup, Germany have reached at least the semifinals of every major tournament since 2006. Low has shown flexibility as manager, experimenting with three and four player defenses and different midfield setups. Germany could use either defense against England and France but will likely stick to a formation using a lone striker. The big question will be how Low decides to set up his midfield. Low has so many talented options, it makes his selections unpredictable.
