Lorenzen Wright played 13 seasons in the NBA. He was brutally murdered in 2010, a year after his NBA career ended. New evidence found could help solve his murder.

The Memphis Police Department believe they found the weapon used in the murder of Lorenzen Wright. According to SBNation’s Tim Cato, a spokesperson for the precinct stated that the weapon found is the gun used to slay Wright.

"“It’s believed that this is the murder weapon,” the spokesperson, Louis Brownlee, told reporters on Thursday."

Wright was an All-American and All-Conference USA at the University of Memphis before moving on to the NBA. The 6-foot-11 center was drafted by the Los Angeles Clippers. He was traded around the league but played the majority of his career with his hometown Memphis Grizzlies and the Atlanta Hawks.

The talented center played 13 seasons, finalizing his career in 2009 with the Cleveland Cavaliers. He holds career averages of 7.9 points per game and 6.3 rebounds per game.

Less than a year after Wright retired he was found murdered in the woods. According to the SBNation article, the police believe that Wright called the police from his cell phone nine days prior to being found. The call unfortunately was unable to be confirmed, interrupted by gunfire.

Wright’s family filed a missing person report on July 22, four days after last being spotted leaving his ex’s house. The police found the body in the woods near that same house six days later.

Wright’s murder still remains unsolved. The police have treated the case as a homicide throughout the investigation. The evidence that was found could lead to more answers and hopefully an arrest.
