With the first weekend of college basketball in the books, here’s what the AP Top 25 rankings might look like for Week 2.
Finally, after waiting about seven months, the start of the 2017-18 college basketball season is finally in the rear-view mirror. The season has been much-anticipated, likely because of the returning talent from some of the nation’s top contenders as well as incoming freshmen who are considered to be top NBA draft picks in 2018.
Every team got to play at least one game during opening weekend which took place from Friday through Sunday, except for the No. 8 Florida Gators. They will take on Gardner-Webb on Monday night to make up for the quiet start to the season.
Everything went as planned for the top teams in the country, though. However, a couple of ranked teams survived scares such as No. 5 Kentucky clawing back against Utah Valley after trailing by nine points at halftime. John Calipari may have his hands full with yet another young, inexperienced, yet talented squad.
Northwestern, the nation’s 19th-ranked team, went down to the wire against Loyola (Md.) on Friday night, showing that the Wildcats still have a ways to go to match last year’s team’s intensity.
In the only ranked battle of the weekend, No. 25 Texas A&M dismantled No. 11 West Virginia in the Armed Forces Classic in Ramstein, Germany.
There shouldn’t be much movement in the Week 2 AP Top 25, but here’s where everyone should end up.
