Aaron Judge named unanimous AL Rookie of the Year

New York Yankees power slugger Aaron Judge was named the unanimous American League Rookie of the Year.

Generally, when it comes to end-of-season awards in Major League Baseball, there is some drama involved. However, when it came to the American League Rookie of the Year award in 2017, there was very little doubt that New York Yankees slugger Aaron Judge was going to be the American League Rookie of the Year.

If you had even the slightest of doubt about that, it was all erased on Monday night.

It was announced on Monday that the 25-year-old Judge was unanimously named the Rookie of the Year in the American League. Every single voter agreed that the new face of the Yankees was the best rookie on that side of baseball this past season.

This was supposed to be a rebuilding year for the Yankees this year, but it was anything but that, and Judge was a big reason why. The team from the Bronx shocked everyone by making it to Game 7 of the ALCS against the eventual World Series champion Houston Astros, and along the way, Judge batted .284 with 52 home runs and 114 RBI.

In response to the honor, Judge had this to say.

“It means everything. It’s quite an honor,” Judge said. “It’s an honor and a privilege. I’m just one piece in an organization. The impact my teammates, family and friends have had on me this year have been huge. I can’t thank them enough.”

The Yankees, as we’ve seen this past season, are in good position to return to the glory days and the performance of Judge is a good reason why this team has bounced back so quickly. He’s earned the Rookie of the Year award, and now, the MVP award may be next.
