The latest Big 12 power rankings for Week 12. Who sits atop the conference after another wild weekend of football?
Another week of Big 12 football closed. It wasn’t a wild slate of games like the previous two weeks, but still provided antics and clarity toward the conference standings. That included separation at the top, with Oklahoma defeating TCU.
Texas Tech ended its four-game losing streak, defeating Baylor, and moving closer to bowl eligibility. Texas did the same, winning by 15 points against Kansas.
With everything that happened in Week 11, how did it impact the latest Big 12 power rankings? Let’s take a look.
Kansas dropped its latest Big 12 game. This time, against Texas, 42-27, to fall to 0-7 in the conference, its only team to be winless this season.
The Jayhawks weren’t obliterated. unlike past games, when teams like Baylor, TCU and Iowa State blew them out. However, the Longhorns controlled most of the 60 minutes and walked out with an easy win.
With games against Oklahoma State and Oklahoma remaining on Kansas’ schedule, look for them to finish 0-9 in the conference and 1-11 for the season. It will end the latest disappointing campaign in Lawrence, KS, with plenty of unknowns for the fall of 2018.
One week after pulling off its first win of 2017, Baylor fell back to earth, losing to Texas Tech, 38-24. It was never much of a game, either, with the Red Raiders dominating from the first quarter and on.
With the Bears’ early deficit, it forced quarterback Charlie Brewer to throw 63 times. for 417 yards and three touchdowns. His previous season-high was 29 — achieved the week before.
It didn’t help that Baylor fumbled the ball three times. Along with one Brewer interception, it resulted in four turnovers, allowing Texas Tech to take advantage and never look back.
A tough two games remain for Matt Rhule’s team. They will face Iowa State and TCU to close the season, which can easily lead to a 1-11 record to finish 2017.
