Justice League will be released on Nov. 17, but what do we know about the villain of the film, Steppenwolf?

So far throughout the DC film universe, we’ve discovered just a few things that are universal. Wonder Woman is the best of them all, and the villains tend to fall into one of three categories: a demon, an alien, or a god. I mean, come on, is it really a DC film if the plot doesn’t surround an alien, god, or demon?

Justice League will be no different, as the one of the main villains, Steppenwolf, is an alien from Apokolips and is known as a “New God” who leads an army of creatures called Parademons.

Parademons are those strange flying creatures that Bruce Wayne (AKA Ben Affleck) dreamed about in Batman vs. Superman and have been featured in the fighting scenes for Justice League, but, if you combine those with Steppenwolf, he fits all three of DC’s villain-archetypes.

I think one of the things that make comic book-based films so great to me is that I never read comics growing up, so every character, every moment, is somewhat new to me. Even with Suicide Squad, which was regarded as one of the worst comic book films yet, I had no idea what to expect, making it a bit more enjoyable experience for me than for those who went in with expectations.

It is important to note that Steppenwolf is second in command to an extremely powerful DC villain known as Darkseid, who will likely end up being one of the major villains in DC film universe down the road. For Marvel fans, think of him as Thanos, who has been hinted at for years but does not show up as the center of the film until dozens of movies later.

Expectations are high for Justice League. Will it be able to live up to the hype?
