NFL roundup: David Johnson has cast on wrist removed

DETROIT, MI - SEPTEMBER 10: David Johnson
DETROIT, MI - SEPTEMBER 10: David Johnson

David Johnson dislocated his wrist in Week 1 of the 2017 NFL season, and on Monday, he had his cast removed, fueling return speculation.

Since Week 1 of the 2017 NFL season, the Arizona Cardinals have been without David Johnson, who is arguably the best running back in the NFC. During their game against the Detroit Lions, Johnson dislocated his wrist, and had to have surgery that placed him on injured reserve. The star had his cast removed on Monday, and with his team sitting at 4-5, there are hopes in the desert that he may be able to come back and lead his team to the playoffs.

Staying with the running backs, Devonta Freeman suffered a concussion against the Dallas Cowboys and had to be removed from the game. The concussion was his second of the season, and he has already been ruled out for the Atlanta Falcons’ Week 11 matchup against the Seattle Seahawks. Expect a heavy dose of Tevin Coleman on Sunday against the Seahawks, who are a bit banged up on the defensive side of the ball.

The Oakland Raiders broke ground on their new stadium on Monday, although it was not in Oakland. The Silver and Black are moving to Las Vegas, and around 1,000 people came out to see Mark Davis put his shovel in the ground. Davis tried to keep his team in Oakland, hoping for help getting a new stadium, as the team has had to share the Oakland Coliseum with  the Oakland A’s for years.

Philip Rivers threw for 235 yards and two touchdowns during the Los Angeles Chargers Week 10 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars, and was not sacked at all. However, he was hit five times, and on Monday, checked himself into concussion protocol. The Chargers take on the Buffalo Bills this upcoming weekend, and if he cannot go, expect the Bolts to roll with veteran Kellen Clemens under center.

Cam Newton was the star of Monday Night Football, as he led his Carolina Panthers teammates to a 45-21 victory over the Miami Dolphins. Newton did it all for the Panthers, leading the team on six touchdown drives, and threw four touchdown passes on the night. The Panthers moved to 7-3 with the win, and after a down 2016 season, they look like the team who made it to the Super Bowl after the 2015 season.
