Steve Spurrier is here to let everyone know that he’s keeping his nose out of the Florida Gators’ search for a new head football coach. Believe him?
With the 2017 college football season quickly coming to a close, much of the focus is on the various coaching searches that will be taking place. As we all remember, the Florida Gators got a huge jump on everyone else in the coaching carousel, mutually parting ways with former head coach Jim McElwain just a few weeks ago because of what has been a disappointing season for the two-time defending SEC East champions.
Athletic director Scott Stricklin has quite the task on his hands, trying to find the perfect head coach to return this program to glory. Given the fact he’s returned to the Florida program since retiring from college coaching, some have been led to believe that maybe the man who turned the Florida program into a juggernaut in the ’90s, Steve Spurrier, may be of some assistance in the search.
Well, it appears he won’t be. You know how that’s known? That’s because he made sure to tell everyone.
Wednesday, Spurrier took to his Twitter account to assure everyone that he has the utmost faith in Stricklin as he goes on this coaching search, and therefore, he won’t be tossing any names of his own into the hat.
I am not recommending anyone for the job. We all have complete confidence that Scott Stricklin will make the best choice for our school - and we will support his decision 100 percent. https://t.co/GREyvfIfFW

Of course, you will have your detractors out there that will be quick to point out they believe Spurrier is lying, and that he very much has a say in who’s the new man to lead the Gators football program. This tweet right here could have been sent to get out ahead of the curve before more and more people insinuate he has involvement in the process.
Whatever the case, the Head Ball Coach, just from this tweet alone, seems to be sitting back and letting it all play out. Or, this is a smokescreen because he’s returning to lead the Gators (this is a joke, yes).
