Vikings to stick with Case Keenum at starting QB

The Minnesota Vikings are sticking with the hot hand in Case Keenum as their starting quarterback.

The Minnesota Vikings starting quarterback position has been an interesting one this season. With Sam Bradford dealing with a knee injury, and Teddy Bridgewater recovering from his horrific injury last August, Case Keenum was the guy to take over the starting role.

While Bridgewater has returned, the job is still Keenum’s to lose. Head coach Mike Zimmer announced on Wednesday that Keenum will start on Sunday. This comes as a surprise to some as many expected Bridgewater to get the job back once he fully recovered. Now while Bridgewater could have played on Sunday, Keenum was just on fire too much for him to sit out, and that is what Mike Zimmer thought as well.

It is the correct move to make though as Keenum as stepped up as the starting quarterback in Minnesota since given the gig, most noticeably last week when he went 21-of-29 for 304 yards, four touchdowns, and two interceptions.

Keenum has the to be the starter for the Vikings if they want a chance to win in the NFC North while the Chicago Bears are struggling, the Green Bay Packers are without Aaron Rodgers, and the Detroit Lions are on their tail.

While Bridgewater was their guy back in 2016, times change and while you could argue that Bridgewater is the better quarterback, right now the Vikings would rather play a guy who has been doing well so far this season, instead of somebody who will have rust and coming off a major injury.

Minnesota has a long road ahead of them as their opponents for the rest of the season have a combined record of 35-29, and their next test is up against the hot L.A. Rams on Sunday, Nov. 18 at 1 p.m. If Keenum starts to show signs of struggles, then you can expect Bridgewater to play.
