New York Jets
-Joe Namath, Curtis Martin, Don Maynard, Darrelle Revis
The New York Jets have some good history to them to work with. For starters, we’ll roll with Joe Namath as the first face on the mountain. Although his stats wouldn’t be as solid today, especially compared to mediocre quarterbacks in the league today like Blake Bortles, he still has a special place in the hearts of Jets fans. He’s a Hall of Famer for calling his shot for Super Bowl III, and he’s one of the most iconic Jets players of all-time.
Next up has to be the guy that helped Namath get to where he did in his career, and that’s his top receiving target: Don Maynard. Maynard somehow averaged 21.3 yards per catch on 128 catches in 1967 and 1968, and helped Namath as far as delivering on his Super Bowl promise in the latter year. He’s the team’s all-time leading receiver, obviously, and is an absolute lock for this Rushmore.
Moving to the rushing game, Curtis Martin comes in for the third spot on the list. He went over 1,000 yards rushing in seven straight seasons for the Jets, and will go down in NFL history as one of the greatest running backs of all-time.
Broadway Joe signed this football, so you know you have to have it.
Last but not least, moving to the defensive side of the ball, you have to get a little bit of Revis Island on this mountain by putting Darrelle Revis in the fourth spot. His career declined in his second go-around with the team after his Super Bowl win with the New England Patriots, but he was arguably the league’s best corner in his first stint with the team and could be one of the all-time Jets when it comes to defense.
