Group of 5 power rankings, Week 12: Top five holds steady
Here’s how the top 10 Group of Five teams stack up heading into week 12 of the college football regular season.
It was a relatively quiet weekend in the Group of Five ranks with a trip of contenders on bye, leading to no movement in the top five of the power rankings.
With time quickly winding down in the regular season, No. 15 UCF is in control of the New Year’s Six race. The Knights pushed their perfect record to 9-0 with an easy win over Connecticut, and will undoubtedly be heading to a major bowl if they win out.
No. 21 Memphis is keeping things close at 8-1, and will be rested for the stretch run after enjoying a late-season bye week. South Florida was also off this week and can set up a winner-take-all War on I4 by topping Tulsa on Thursday night.
The week’s best win belonged to Boise State, which rallied from a 28-3 deficit to top Colorado State 59-52 overtime to move into the College Football Playoff rankings for the first time at No. 25. Boise State is in control of the Mountain Division and could meet Fresno State in the conference title game after the Bulldogs picked up a road win over Hawaii.
In the most entertaining G5 game of the week, Navy blew a 34-11 halftime lead against SMU before topping the Mustangs in the final moments. Ohio was the other team in last week’s top 10 to suffer a defeat, as the Bobcats might have lost a chance at the MAC East title with a 37-34 loss at Akron.
