NXT TakeOver: WarGames went down in Houston on Saturday night. Chaos took center stage at the event. There are also two new champions, as well. Here’s what we learned.

An NXT TakeOver event delivering might be the surest bet there is in wrestling. It seems that every time an event looms, it either meets the high expectations set, or it goes way beyond. TakeOver: WarGames wound up being no different than the events that preceded it. From start to finish, the event had a little bit of everything and was overall terrific. Just as NXT fans have come to expect from these seasonal live specials.

Coming out of the event, we now have two new champions in the top men’s division and the women’s division. Rivalries added chapters, new stars made impacts, and, of course, there was WarGames. The gimmick match made its triumphant return to the airwaves after nearly 20 years of absence. And unsurprisingly, chaos reigned supreme. The team that many believed would “shock the system” did just that, but there are still many questions looming in the event’s aftermath.

For now, as we wait for what comes next, here’s what we learned from the event.

The Women’s Division Goes Through an Eclipse

After months of waiting, Ember Moon achieved her dream in her home state. Moon survived an intense Fatal 4-Way featuring NXT’s brightest female stars, including Nikki Cross, Kairi Sane and Peyton Royce. With Moon’s double Eclipse on Cross and Royce, she became the sixth NXT Women’s Champion in history, filling the vacancy that current RAW superstar Asuka left this past summer.

With Moon finally becoming champion, it’s time to see what comes next. Moon has big shoes to fill, of course, as the NXT Women’s Championship is arguably the most prestigious title in the company. The aforementioned Asuka obviously left little doubt who was the supreme women superstar of the brand. But there was dominance before The Empress of Tomorrow. Bayley, Sasha Banks and Charlotte all had outstanding reigns. And lest we forget Paige, the first NXT Women’s Champion, who blazed a trail of her own.

Ember is the newest superstar who could help the title keep its prestige, and she will have to do so in arguably the deepest division since the brand began. You can start by including the three ladies who were fighting alongside her on Saturday night. Then, you can broaden the horizons, too. There’s Peyton’s sidekick, Billie Kay. Then, there’s Sonya Deville, Liv Morgan and Ruby Riot. Mandy Rose and Bianca Belair are waiting in the wings, along with Aliyah and Lacey Evans.

Needless to say, Ember will have challenges coming in all directions. The women’s division in NXT will absolutely be one to watch going forward, and all eyes will be on Moon as she tries to carry the legacy of the championship she finally claimed in Houston.
